21165 Children were killed since the Beginning of the Syrian Revolution in 2011

The documentation department at the Syria Revolutionaries’ Gathering mentioned on Tuesday, that no less than 21165 Syrian children were killed since the launch of the Syrian Revolution in March 2011.

In a report entitled “The Future of Syria’s children is threatened by the Survival of Al-Assad’s Regime”, the Gathering took the occasion of the international day of the child to call the international community to assume its responsibilities for Syria’s children, and insisted on the importance of accounting Bashar Al-Assad and his deputies, who committed the most hideous violations against the childhood, some of which are war crimes according to the international law.

The report indicated that Al-Assad’s regime and its allied militias have killed no less than 17670 children, while the Russian Army has killed 1196 children at least since its military intervention in support of Al-Assad’s regime in September 2015 until the end the of October 2018.

The report also recorded and documented the martyrdom of 967 children by unidentified forced, one child among them has died under torture, in addition to 654 children killed by the international alliance, whereas 507 were killed by ISIS, 3 among them died under torture.

In its statement, the gathering added that 65 children were killed by Kurdish militias, and the same number of children was killed by armed confrontation factions, while 23 children were killed by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham –previously called Jabhat Al-Nusra-. On the other hand, 5 children were killed due to clashes between Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and some of the armed confrontation faction, in addition to 5 kids killed due to explosion incidents, whereas 2 children were killed during armed clashes between Al-Assad’s forces and ISIS. 2 other kids were killed during armed clashes between Al-Assad’s forced and the Syria Free Army, while 2 children were killed by the Lebanese army, 1 child was killed by the Turkish Army, and one child was killed by the Iraqi Army.

2013 was marked by the death of the largest number of children, as the gathering stated that it documented the death of 408 children in 2011 and that this number tripled in 2012 and thus reached 4001 children; however, in 2013 the number peaked to reach 4958 children. The gathering also documented the death of 2427 children in 2015, and 2577 children in 2016, while the number of 2017 was 1902, and as for 2018, the number of children martyrs since the beginning of the year until the end of October, if 1162.

The gathering pointed out that the toll of children martyrs documented in the gathering’s archives only includes the children documented by their names, indicating that the final number that includes the unidentified children vastly exceeds the mentioned number.

The report also clarified that the violations against Syrian children have not been only limited to Intentional homicide, but also included physical and psychological terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary detention, torture, and child soldiering.

The Syria Revolutionaries Gathering held Al-Assad responsible for committing these crimes and violations, drawing attention to the fact that other parties are engaging in these violations.
